When I first started researching moral injury in 2011-12, there was almost no literature on the topic. There was Jonathan Shay´ s work and a proposed definition by Maguen et. Al. The closest essay to capture the essence , in non technical jargon , was Peter Marin´s Living in Moral Pain.
